It is common with small companies and large ones alike to place little distinction between marketing and sales. Once marketing functions are defined and seperated from sales initiatives, then there is new confusion in the difference between marketing, PR, advertising and branding. Without a clear distinction in what they are and how they work differently, results will be stifled.
Trying to explain the differences is sometimes confusing and many times each function will overlap. But I recently found this simple explanation. Simple, but precise.
